Anthony, a 21-year-old student with autism, had held several jobs in the
past but none had been in an office position. Anthony and his counselor
were seeking a training opportunity that would provide him with the
skills and workplace behaviors needed to hold a full-time job in an
office setting.
Anthony enrolled in DePaul Industries’ free Youth Scholarship Training
program for students with disabilities, ages 21 & under. While at the
Training Center, Anthony made dramatic improvements as he learned new
clerical skills and appropriate workplace behavior.
Anthony doubled his typing speed and successfully completed advanced
portions of the Word and Excel programs, exceeding the intermediate
sections that typically are part of DePaul’s Youth Training Program.
Ten days after graduating from DePaul’s Youth Scholarship Program,
Anthony started his full-time job as Office Assistant 2 with the
Department of Motor Vehicles.
